Residence who opposed the construction of apartments at the former Home for Little Wanderers in Jamaica Plain were left speechless after the Boston Redevelopment Authority approved the project.
Boston Residential Group’s $75 million plan is to demolish the nearly 100-year-old building on South Huntington Avenue and construct a 196-unit apartment complex dubbed Olmsted Place.
The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council is frustrated at the BRA’s decision. “People are so outraged that the community is being ignored,” said Benjamin Day, chairman of the JPNC (Boston Herald).
The original project was modified by Boston Residential Group to accommodate requests by locals. Modification include: an increase in 3 bedroom units, decrease in the project’s size, and an increase in affordability of units. Despite these revisions, some residents are upset by the BRA’s decision to approve construction.
The project will face the city’s zoning board on November 13th.
