Goodbye to NorthPoint and Hello to Cambridge Crossing
The East Cambridge development formerly known as NorthPoint has officially been re-named to Cambridge Crossing. The relaunch of the 45 acre site breathes new life into an exhausted and tight commercial market. The newest building, 250 North Street, will boast 430k square feet of new lab and office space. Cambridge Crossing is expected to bring around 2.1M square feet of science, technology, and office space once fully built out and completed. This addition of so much useful lab space eases the tension in a submarket where direct vacancy rate for lab space is under 1% in Cambridge.
Developers of the Cambridge Crossing site also plan on adding 2,400 residential units to the already existing 2,500 units. 100K square feet of retail space is also intended to be developed. This new work, live, and play site poses another opportunity for many lab and tech companies to find their home in Cambridge. Cambridge Mayor E. Denise Simmons stated, “It is important that we continue to provide places that allow our local colleges and universities to collaborate with entrepreneurs and industry leaders in solving real world issues, and in developing the next generation of companies”.
