Plans for 40 Trinity Place unveiled

The Back Bay’s skyline may have its newest edition—a 33-story hotel and residential dubbed 40 Trinity Place. The plans for the complex were unveiled Tuesday by prominent real estate developers Trinity Stuart LLC, a local development partnership comprised of Jordan Warshaw, Gary Saunders, and Jeffrey Saunders..

The project will include a 220-room hotel, 142 units for permanent residency, parking, and retail space. The site of the building is located on across from the Hancock Tower on Stuart Street, on the former site of the John Hancock Hotel & Conference Center.

Developers hope to begin construction by fall of 2013, but developers have yet to receive approval from the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

Some obstacles may include opposition from neighborhood groups concerned about traffic and height restrictions in the area. Furthermore, the developers must commit to improving the surrounding neighborhood via public art installations or expansion of open spaces for locals.

If approved, the project will contribute to the recovery of Boston’s commercial building industry.
