According to the National Venture Capital Association, the New England region recorded 225 deals, totaling $2,243,072,600 venture investments during the first and second quarters 2014, which indicated a 44% and a 27% investment amount increase compared to the same period in 2013 and 2012.
As venture capital typically focus on young, high-growth companies with a longer investment haul compared to the traditional financing sources, the amount of venture investments received in a region speaks for its innovation and business environment and thus further reflects the status of that region from the economic level.
The top 3 states with the most venture investments received in the first half of 2014 are California, Massachusetts and New York. Silicon Valley in California would no doubt be sitting on the very top of the list collecting over $13.6 billion with 892 deals recorded. New York had 215 investment deals recorded with $1,778,461,300 venture investment money in total. Though Massachusetts reported fewer transactions than New York, the total amount of venture capital investment Massachusetts received was approximately 17% more in the first half of 2014 and 13% more in 2013.
