Magoun Square to get another restaurant

Magoun Square to get another restaurant

A local food truck company plans to open their first restaurant in Somerville’s Magoun Square. This is a major move for Pennypackers, a small company which currently operates with two trucks, one in South Boston and the other near Boston University in Brookline. The company’s Facebook page states that the Somerville Zoning Board of Appeals gave the seal of approval on May 15th, and that new eatery will open sometime this summer!

I had the chance to try one of their acclaimed porchetta sandwiches awhile back when I stumbled across their truck. They get a ringing endorsement from me, and I’m sure anyone else who has indulged in their menu would agree. This development is great news for Pennypackers, Magoun Square and the surrounding Somerville community. According to Eater Boston, the company recently won “best in festival” at Boston’s annual Food Truck Throwdown.

Magoun Square is already being viewed as a local hotspot for aspiring restaurateurs. A number of local Brazilian-food restaurants have opened in the area, along with Daddy Jones, a Greek-themed establishment that launched last year. Pennypackers will share the building on 514C Medford Street with King of Wings, another restaurant slated to open this summer.

Both Pennypackers and King of Wings were leased by agent Stephanie Deering of ABG Realty, reflecting a greater focus on restaurant leasing in the Greater Boston Area as of late. (Somerville Patch, Facebook)
