A plan for the construction of a new commuter rail station in Brighton on the Worcester line received initial approval from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Finance Committee on Tuesday.
The new stop, which is estimated to cost 14 to 16 million dollars, is situated right next to New Balance’s proposed 235 million corporate headquarters. Boston Landing LLC, a division of New Balance, will cover the costs to design and build the station. New Balance will also cover the station’s maintenance costs for its first ten years of operation.
One year ago, New Balance laid out the plans for New Boston Landing, a new world headquarters that will include up to 900,000 square feet of office, restaurant and retail space, a 175-room hotel, and a 345,000-square-foot sports complex on 14 acres of land in Brighton.
Boston Landing station is expected to provide numerous benefits for both New Balance and the surrounding community. The completion of New Balance’s headquarters will create thousands of jobs, and the new station will make transportation convenient for employees. Visitors will also have easy access to the new facilities, boding well for New Balance’s business activities.
The Transportation Department board will consider the station for final approval on May 22nd. MBTA officials are hopeful that the station will receive the green light.
