Robot firm is moving to Hub’s Innovation District

Heartland Robotics Inc. said it is relocating its corporate headquarters and product development efforts from Cambridge to an area of Boston’s Fort Point Channel neighborhood that falls within what Mayor Thomas M. Menino has dubbed the “Innovation District.”

The company, which is developing a new generation of intelligent robots to increase productivity in manufacturing environments, said it is moving 30 employees to its new space at 27-43 Wormwood St.; the larger space will facilitate its expansion plans, and the company said it expects to grow to 50 employees by the end of the year.

In Cambridge, the company’s office near Central Square has about 7,000 square feet of space. When the move to the Boston location is completed, something expected to happen next week, Heartland Robotics will have 18,400 square feet of space, company president and chief executive Scott Eckert wrote in an e-mail.

“In order to attract the world-class talent that we need, we wanted a terrific office space, in a vibrant part of the city, and easily accessible by public transportation,” Eckert said in a statement included with the company’s press release.

The release noted that Heartland Robotics had recently raised $20 million in Series B financing. Company investors include Highland Capital Partners, Sigma Partners, Charles River Ventures, and Bezos Expeditions.
