Chacarero plans for expansion

Downtown Crossing’s Chacarero has a bright future in the Boston area. The restaurant, which has received rave reviews of its Chilean-style sandwiches, will open a second location at the Prudential Center.

Chacarero began when owner Juan Hurtado began selling the Chilean sandwiches from a pushcart in Downtown crossing nearly 20 years ago. Hurtado’s cart did relatively well and he then decided to rent a small takeout space along Franklin Street in the Downtown area. Finally, in 2005 the Chilean sandwiches were in such high demand that Hurtado relocated to the current space on Arch Street.

The sandwich is unique and authentic, customers claim. Chacereros are made with bread, chicken or steak, steamed green beans, cheese, tomatoes, avocados spread, salt, pepper, and a secret hot recipe to complete the sandwich.
