Bee’s Knees Supply Co. creates hype in South Boston

Jason Owens, the man behind Bee’s Knees Supply co., is making waves in South Boston. The high end supermarket, slated to open this winter, will boast a unique selection of high-quality, gourmet foods. The store will include 5,500 square feet of fresh produce, meats, seafood, as well as downtown Boston’s largest selection of cheese. In addition to groceries, the shop aims to offer a large array of prepared foods ready for easy pick up.

Owen’s vision includes a wide selection of local foods. For example, ice cream from Jamaica Plain’s Batch. The location of the store is excellent, says Owens.  “With the area growing residentially, we’re looking to be the market for Fort Point,” Owens said. “Bee’s Knees will stand for a certain level of integrity — whether it’s a tomato or cheese. We’re hand-selecting everything to be the best. We want guests to come in and not see what they would see in a Whole Foods or grocery store,” reports the Boston Herald.

Concerns regarding the cost of groceries are being raised by locals. Hand-selected produce have a knack for being a tad bit more expensive than the generic brand. However, according to Owens, that does not mean the selection will be expensive. Something rather unique to Bee’s Knees is that it may offer cooking lessons and wine tastings. If you have a sweet tooth, South Boston-based Blue Tierra Chocolates will be merging with Bees Knees to be the exclusive on-site chocolatier, yum!
