Hope for East Boston

Hope for East Boston

There may hope for East Boston after all. A luxury housing project by Roseland Property Co. is in the works on East Boston’s waterfront that will bring 550 residential units in a three phase construction project. The first phase consists of a 176-unit apartment complex called Portside at Pier One, which has been delayed in the past because of financial and economic reasons.

‘“East Boston has shown a lot of patience. Now we’re going to show East Boston progress,” said Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, who made redevelopment of the Eastie waterfront a priority in a 2011 speech’, reports bostonherald.com.

The $67 million development will consist of a five story building, and the end project will consist of 7 buildings with restaurants and retail that will put a spark to the waterfront. The residents will have views of the Boston skyline and access to the Maverick Station on the Blue Line. Even though this is a luxury housing project there will be 26 units that will be considered “affordable”.  Hopefully this development will be the first of many more to come in East Boston.
